WEB MAPPING
Interactive web maps are an integral feature of today's web-surfing experience, thanks to recent advances in Internet-based digital mapping technology and the exponential growth in bandwidth internationally. A new generation of map-savvy consumers are increasingly reliant on web mapping to get directions, find their friends, plan trips, or locate a convenient service or store.
The capacity of South Africa's Internet backbone will increase dramatically in the next five years, enabling the delivery of highly accurate, up-to-date digital maps to laptops, desktops and mobile devices.
Leading Internet solution provider AAT has partnered with MapIT to make this a reality in the form of streetmaps.co.za and MapIT's own mapservice.co.za.
Our maps help consumers to find accommodation, car service agents, bank ATMs or a doctor. They can find their way on tourist sites, property portals, and company websites that seek to position branch networks, dealerships and outlets on a map.
Organisers of large, public participation events like the Two Oceans, Comrades Marathon and the 94.7 Cycle Challenge use MapIT's routing engine to manage and organise key logistical aspects of the event, showing water, medical and refreshment points, the start and finish line and exhibition hall. Spectators are able to plan a route to the event and the public can avoid the race while it is on.
This technology is available to clients who organise events in South Africa which require the integration of detailed logistical planning with location-based data to communicate with their participants and spectators.
Other clients like Southern Sun offer web mapping facilities to help prospective guests to find their hotels and identify the easiest routes to and from them.
